Everything You Wanted to Know about Math Courses
but were afraid to ask

Every semester at registration there is confusion about what math courses are required or recommended for the different programmes. This list should help you in your decision. Remember that the course number is little indication of the level of the course or the semester in which you should take it. If you have any questions, see a math teacher.

201-009 Pre-Calculus

Offered only in the fall.
This course must be taken if you are missing secondary V math (536) and wish to take any other math courses except 201-337 (Statistics), 201-300 (Complements in QM) or 201-302 (Mathematics for Business). You can take Statistics or Complements in QM with only secondary IV math, but you may be at a disadvantage. This is a non-credit course.

201-103 Differential Calculus

Offered both semesters.
Required for all Commerce students. Also required for Business Administration (410) if you plan on going to university. Recommended for those considering further studies in Economics or Geography. There are very interesting avenues in Psychology for those with a math background. 201-103 is the first of these courses.

201-105 Vectors and Matrices

Offered both semesters.
Required for all Commerce students. It is usually taken in the 3rd or 4th semester. If you wish to go to an Ontario university after your first year, this course should be taken in your first year.

201-203 Integral Calculus

Offered both semesters.
The second half of a standard calculus course. Required for all Commerce students. You would be wise to take this immediately after Calculus I.

360-255 Complements in Quantitative Methods

Offered only in the winter.
This course is compulsory for any social science student going into psychology as well as a few other fields (check with the guidance counsellor). Actually, if you are still toying with the idea of going into psychology, you should consider this course.

201-337 Statistics
